Creative Commons licenses don't actually have any special validity. they're not backed by some sort of Authentic License bureau. the only advantage they have are they're vetted by lawyers and stuff to make sure there's no wording loopholes and they have tidy icons you can use on your stuff to reference it instead of having to write up a usage license yourself.

but you always have that option. you can write your own license of whatever the fuck you want. it's totally legal.

is imo still pretty far from being able to replace

It may just be their Pulse compatibility layer is not up to snuff, but I tried it as a drop in replacement for PA on my Arch setup and while basic audio playback worked fine, when I wanted to use a mic from an onboard soundcard for a videocall, but have audio playback go to my external DAC, people suddenly couldn't hear me at all.

Switching back to PA immediately fixed the issue, so yea PipeWire's not for me yet

Quick inventory today 💻 🖥️ 📱

Counting only smartphones and computers, I've got more than 50 CPUs... 😱

Recent ones: Apple M1, Intel i7
Oldest: Z80, 68040, 8086

The two ones on the pic are special:
- the AMD386 was running my first Linux PC
- the Cyrix MII created the first Mandrake

Only half-joking

Did Dorsey step down so he doesn't have to release project Bluesky or answer for why he won't?

You might not like it but this is the most optimum layout for programming

Western Digital drives seem to require Windows to update firmware. Even though they could provide transparent updates via

I've learned some of mine have dangerous firmware bugs.

I've posted on WD forums and filed a support ticket for this.

Maybe if enough people are a PITA about this to them, they'll finally do something about it.

I wonder what datacenters do...

Why do commercial sites make it so hard to give them money?

One of the first principles of commerce is to make it easy for your customers to give you money. Why do so many vendors make it Damn. Near. Impossible.

No wonder Amazon is eating everyone's lunch.

C++ programmers are now finally able to read linker errors in one line. But when working with templates, I would choose a monitor with a bigger diagonal.

Question for Linux musicians: What sysex management program do you use? I don't need the fancy synth-specific patch management features that you'd find in something like Dexed. Just being able to send/receive/load/save sysex messages would be a good start.

Note that the only reason we can see the source code to Trump’s new social network is because Mastodon was licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License.

If it had been licensed under MIT or BSD, we couldn’t have because Trump would have enclosed it.

Choose your licenses carefully if you care about freedom.

I just want you guys to know that the multiple *years* I've had my music on Spotify and iTunes have still made me less money than the first two weeks of the same albums on Bandcamp.

Please support artists directly if you can.

If you (like me) think
went to shit and are looking for an appropriate replacement, Green Lung and their new Black Harvest album is an absolute blast.
