@federicomena I... happen to know how they store and overlay stuff, and it's not pretty.

But Docker and Podman are very similar in that regard, since Podman was designed to be compatible with Docker, and they both impl the same specs. What actually differs is:
• Podman is deamonless, rootless
• Podman is designed to play nice with systemd, and has supported cgroups v2 for a long time
• Podman's OCI runtime, crun, is written in C, not Go, and is measurably faster than Docker's runc

I haven't seen a respected community staple crash its own reputation as spectacularly as #Freenode since SourceForge started injecting malware into downloads

Today my Mobian Pinephone made the German equivalent of a 911 call in order to report old WW II ammunition found in a forest. This might have been the first real call of an #pinephone to the emergency services? 🥇 🙂 🚓

tech question, boost appreciated

what vps hosts are people using? are there any recommended ones? I was using greengeeks but don't want to mess with centos. Looking to host matrix, jitsi, and maybe a nextcloud.

Good article on Apple's sleazy 'not technically a lie' style of pleading ignorance when asked about any specific numbers regarding the AppStore financials in Epic's lawsuit against .

By not breaking down revenue enough, Apple can claim they don't have specific numbers about any particular aspect of its business, therefore making it harder to argue any particular aspect of their 'services' business is extremely profitable &/or has near monopoly power.

Windows and MacOS have gone from "what is internet?" to "why aren't you on the internet right *now*?!"

@aral let’s keep the conversation constructive and leave irony out please.

Epiphany holds mostly because of the efforts of Igalia, which makes all the heavy lifting to allow WebKit to be used with GTK.

The two maintainers of Epiphany are volunteers. The foundation pays exactly 0€ to people working on epiphany.

The foundation pays only one developer on GTK, and someone to maintain Flathub.

By spreading false information on alternatives you are actually reinforcing Google’s monopoly.

@aral @exalm again, the Foundation funds exactly 0€ of Epiphany and has no saying over it. Please don’t be of bad faith to prove a point.

Let’s be constructive together. Harming alternatives is reinforcing the monopolies

Programming language where primitive types are passed by reference and compound types are passed by value

Has the javascript ecosystem solved ES6 modules "just working" everywhere yet?

Or am I going to have to play bundler games? sigh

don't read if you're a 'centrist'

An avalanche of shitty centrist takes on Palestine on the bird side...some things never change.

If I'd like to create a static page that updates content once a day by fetching rss feeds, what would you advice me to read to get started?

New map app recommendation: Organic Maps - - Available for Android and iOS. It is a privacy preserving Maps.Me fork providing users with beautiful vector tiles for offline maps and navigation. This is my favourite way for using #OpenStreetMap on a smartphone!
