Just confirmed I will be working with a professional UX designer starting later this week to figure out how to improve the joinmastodon.org onboarding flow.

Hi everyone, newbie here.

I'm a IT Pro for a living, but in my spare time I mess with tech, have a growing interest in privacy related tech, spend far too much time thinking about my football team (Bradford City) and have a 3 year old to keep me young :)

Just getting my head around Mastodon so you probably won't hear too much from me to start with ;)

Fediverse admins with significant amount of media (images) hosted on your instances;

I am doing some preliminary research for hosting an instance of my own fediverse software and am curious where do you all host media files, how many GBs approximately, number of users on your instance and what's your monthly cost?

Please boost for visibility if you can.
Thanks.

Fun bit:
> The terms "device manufacturer," "operating system provider," and "provider of remote computing service," apply only to firms with unit sales over one million annually or one million customers/subscribers.

So #Signal would have been able to avoid it if it was a federated network of independent service providers.

Unrelated: I seem to have misplaced my smallest open-source violin.

For anyone who for some reason still respected Elon Musk, this is the mentality you're looking up to.

(His account wasn't taken over by hackers here, btw)

Now that all #Garmin servers are down, let me recommend GoldenCheetah, a great offline-first software to manage cycling etc. data: goldencheetah.org

I might be late to the party on this, but I've become too complacent in trusting google to not be a total jerk. Using firefox and watching the stream on youtube (vimeo kept timing out) I was dealing with frequent buffering and default 720p all day. Decided to mess around with a user agent switcher and pretend to be chrome, and what do you know, it started up at 1080p and running as smooth as, well, something pretty smooth.
Maybe something else is going on, but that seems pretty dirty.

"Wow, this rsync took a long time, wonder if my internet is having issues"

"Oh."

People on Hacker News, supposedly a rational community, defending churches, because "they're places where communities meet".

Guess what? So is Discord!

Not sure how I feel about having individual functions accept an *Allocator argument.

Seems very high friction.

I want to gauge interest in a podcast/video series about cryptography and game design.

It would feature stuff like mental poker and other "provably fair" games, secure multi-party computation, and p2p implementations which reflect the adversarial nature of the game in question. The field is fascinating and as far as I know there aren't any shows covering it.

Please favourite or reply if you'd be interested in such a thing.

You know always boasts about how powerful their A-Series chips in the iPhone/iPad are on paper.

But they never mention that you never get to use that power because of how restrictive is.

I just compiled the entire toolchain on the in under 10 minutes.

Would it take less on an iPhone? I cannot find out easily, Apple won't let me compile the Go toolchain on an iPhone.

That's why the is actually much more powerful than even the most recent .

I am extraordinarily pleased to announce a new release of my refactoring source-to-source compiler for FORTRAN 77! So happy!

Make of that what you will.
